The Olympic Games are the leading international sporting events featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions The Olympic Games are considered the world’s foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating.  As a result of the history and the excitement surrounding these internationally accepted games, it has become the ultimate dream of every athlete to participate in the Olympic Games.

This year Summer Olympics was held in Rio, Brazil which was branded and commonly known as Rio 2016. Athletes from all over the world were at Rio to be part of history. When it comes to the Olympics, people are more particular about the heartwarming moments that will be shared by various athletes. Rio 2016 was no exception, as it provided abundance of memorable moments which can hardly be expunged from our memories.

Personally, MY STAR MOMENT of Rio 2016 was an incident that has deliberately left a mark in my entire life due its profound effect on me. 26 year old French gymnast Samir Ait Said, is indeed my favorite Olympic Star who showed much excellence and brevity in this year’s Olympics Games.

Ait Said suffered a shocking broken leg during the qualification rounds for the men’s gymnastics at the Rio Olympic Park.

The 26-year-old landed badly on the vault and his left leg folded beneath him, before swinging loosely below the knee as he fell to the floor. A harrowing, crunching sound can be heard as he hits the mat. He was then carried off the pitch by the medical team. For most people around the world, they thought the Olympics dream of Said has been shattered. Interestingly however, this is the man who largely inspired me in the Olympics games.

After being attended by medics, Ait Said managed to raise one arm despite his current condition to acknowledge the ovation of the crowd before being taken to hospital. What a show of excellence!

Even though he couldn’t attain the Gold Medal he promised his people, i knew in his mind he has received the greatest medal in the Olympics. What some of you did not know is that this

is not the first time an injury has dashed Mr Ait Said’s Olympic dreams. The gymnast was forced to pull out of the 2012 Games because he fractured his leg in three places during the European Championships. You might call this disobedience, but to me, is a relentless effort and determination for success.

I am sure most of you did not follow up after this sad incidence. Tell you what,

Samir Ait Said, has taken the first steps toward his comeback.

The French gymnast who shattered his left leg during qualifying needed only crutches when he visited France House not long ago. The French Olympic team posted a video of Ait Said moving with ease on crutches, smiling as he chatted with other French athletes and media members.

Ait Said, also posted a video on his Facebook page of him when he was still in the hospital.

But Ait Said, stated immediately that he would be fine and planned to continue competing with an eye on the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

“The adventure of Tokyo 2020 is still possible,” he said “As soon as I’m back on my feet I’ll be back in training and searching for that Olympic gold”.

I know you are reading with bewilderment, certainly, i was equally motivated in awe. In spite of all that, he still has his eye on the gold, now that is a man who never gives up. If Said, refused to give up in his situation, then why must I succumb to defeat? He has thought me hard work, determination, consistency and above all, the believe in one self which are the basic principles of achieving success at any field in life. His practical demonstration of determination has had a profound effect on my life and therefore qualifies to be my favorite Olympic star at Rio 2016.
